knotting, looping
over and over
over and over and over again
I look off and away, in hope
the hope that one day
(that once-upon-a-time day I’ve heard of)
I will be free
this quiet hope echoes in every song I sing
dreams of eagle wings permeate my thoughts as I sleep
bravery
(unattainable bravery)
awaits
flight over mountains and meadows,
streams and cities
this promise awaits as I drift away
I long for it, this bravery
the bravery of an eagle
I long to leave my fears behind
leave my fears in this nest
(this ghost-town nest made of hay)
as that bird-king would
but instead I am only a sparrow
